Read stories about my explorations...
The city, VARANASI OR BENARAS OR KASHI, is often referred as the oldest living city in the world.
Mark Twain said,
"Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even the legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together."
The land of VARANASI has been the ultimate pilgrimage spot for Hindus for ages.
Hindus believe that one who is graced to die on the land of Varanasi would attain salvation and freedom from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
The city gets its name from two rivers VARUNA and ASHI which pass through the city and meet the Holi river GANGA.
Varanasi has been a symbol of Hindu Renaissance.
Knowledge, Philosophy, Culture, devotion to God, Indian Art and Craft have all flourished here for centuries.
We four amateur photographer friends wanted to explore this city through the lenses of our cameras.
So, we decided to visit Varanasi in the month of March. The weather in this month is almost friendly.
I carried my DSLR NIKON 3200 and one AFS NIKOR 18-105 lens.
Capturing Varanasi in one visit is almost impossible.
We thought of shooting different activities of people in different Ghats, roads and lanes of this city.
Here are a very few photos of various activities of people and portraits. Hope you may get the glimpse of Varanasi.
